Bank and Stock Market Holiday Schedules Till 2025

Many years ago, banks did not have open hours. On weekends, they were closed. They were open when you arrived at work and closed before you departed.

Right now, banks are open later than they were before. For example, Bank of America is open from 9 AM-5 PM on weekdays and 9 AM-6 PM on Fridays. They are also open 9 AM-12 PM on Saturdays. That’s not too bad.

But the holidays are not bad. When people go on vacation, banks work less. The stock market also works less during holidays like Good Friday or Easter Sunday.

In the financial industry, they have been careful. So they work on days that people don’t have work.

Bank Holidays

bank holiday till 2025

There are 10 days off for holidays. The Federal Reserve System has holidays and we also get them. That is great.

A bank can’t process your deposit, transfer, bill pay or other activity on a day they are closed. If you plan on doing this, make sure to do them before the bank is closed. It seems silly because someone probably never does it for you, but that’s how they want to work.

Not every bank follows the same schedule as the Federal Reserve. The list below only includes banks that follow the Federal Reserve system.

Those days are:

  • January 1st is always New Year’s Day.
  • Inauguration Day is always January 20th, every four years.
  • Martin Luther King Jr Day is on the third Monday of January.
  • The third Monday in February is Washington’s birthday.
  • Memorial Day happens every year on the last Monday in May or June, depending on when it falls.
  • Independence day occurs on July 4th and can’t be changed.
  • Labour day happens around September 1st to the next Friday at midnight (11:59 pm).
  • Columbus day happens on October 12th, but it may change soon because people don’t like Columbus anymore (2021).
  • Veterans’ day is November 11th (always).

Note – Some banks do not observe Inauguration Day.

If the holiday falls on Saturday, then you can celebrate it on Friday. Or, if it is Sunday, it will be celebrated on Monday.

When a holiday falls on Sunday, we celebrate it the following Monday.

Here are the dates for the upcoming five years.

Stock Market Holidays

The New York Stock Exchange and the NASDAQ are not the same as banks. They don’t have Columbus Day or Veterans Day off, but they do have Good Friday.

Some banks are closed on certain days. Some banks close at 1 PM the day before Independence Day, after Thanksgiving, and on Christmas Eve in certain cases.

They observe the following nine days in total:

  • January 1st is always New Year’s Day.
  • Martin Luther King Jr Day is on the 3rd Monday of January.
  • Washington’s Birthday is on the 3rd Monday of February.
  • Good Friday is before Easter Sunday on April 4th.
  • Memorial Day is always the last Monday in May.   Independence Day happens on July 4th every year.
  • Labour day happens around September 4th or 5th, but it can be different depending on when Labor day falls that year due to holidays and other events that happen during September each year (like national conventions).
  • Thanksgiving always falls on November 23rd or 24th with Christmas falling on December 25th every year too.

The day for Juneteenth 2021 was not observed because the law that created the holiday just became law.

The stock market will close early sometimes, at 1 PM. It will happen on these days:

  • Day after Thanksgiving is a good day to do open houses because not many people will be working.
  • Christmas Eve is also a good day to do open houses if it’s on a weekday.
  • July 3rd and 4th are also good days for open houses if they’re on weekdays.

Some people have a lot of questions about when they can’t use their bank. Some people also wonder what the stock market is. Now you know when banks are open, closed or opening late. You also know about stock markets.

FAQ’s

Do Stocks Go Down During Holidays?

The stock market will close early when there are holidays. The NYSE and Nasdaq will be closed for trade on the day after Thanksgiving. And on December 24 if it falls on a weekday. And also on July 3 if both it and July 4 fall on a weekday.

What time is best for intraday?

Trade at 9:30 and 10:30 in the morning. That is perfect for trading because it is right after the market opens and there are lots of good trades.

Are the holidays a good time to buy stocks?

Some people buy and sell stocks. They do it close to Christmas, but they sell them after that day. Sellers push prices down, so people can buy now.

What is the Monday effect?

It is a theory that returns on the stock market will follow the trend from the previous Friday. If it goes up on Fridays, it should go up on Mondays too.
